Our roots run deep
PRASAD’s story began in the 1930s, when the revered saint, Bhagavan Nityananda, began offering food, clothing, and support to remote tribal communities in the Tansa Valley, Maharashtra.
His spiritual successor, Swami Muktananda, expanded this work through a mobile hospital that brought healthcare to villages previously considered too remote to reach. In the 1980s, Gurumayi Chidvilasananda further broadened these efforts to address malnutrition, tuberculosis, and preventable blindness.
In 1994, she established PRASAD Chikitsa as an independent nonprofit dedicated to creating sustainable, life-changing opportunities for rural communities.
What began as simple acts of service has grown into a holistic approach to community development. Guided by the meaning of our name—Prasad, a gift that blesses both giver and receiver—we continue to work alongside communities to create lasting change.
