In many rural parts of India, including the Tansa Valley, menstruation is still surrounded by stigma and misinformation. Girls often lack access to sanitary products and accurate health information, leading to poor hygiene, school absenteeism, and long-term health risks. The cost and unavailability of sanitary pads further contribute to unsafe practices like using cloth or other unhygienic alternatives.

How We Are Solving It

  • Educational health talks

Talks are held at schools to inform adolescent girls about menstrual health, hygiene practices, and the importance of using sanitary pads

  • Distribution of Sanitary pads

Distribution of sanitary pads free through the Muktananda Mobile Hospital and Sanitary pad vending machines installed at 10 schools, provide pads to women and girls in remote regions where the cost of sanitary pads might be a financial strain

Impact

The program has improved menstrual hygiene awareness, helped reduce school absenteeism, and empowered young girls with the knowledge and tools to manage their periods with dignity. By creating an accessible and affordable solution, PRASAD Chikitsa is supporting adolescent health and fostering gender equity in rural education.
